Long Run

Long Run

Long Run is a nine-year-old racehorse trained by Nicky Henderson, who is a lively contender for the 2014 Crabbie's Grand National, as he looks to add the prestigious Aintree crown to his CV that already has the Cheltenham Gold Cup on it.

Age: 9

Trainer: Nicky Henderson

Notable Race Wins:

Feltham Novices' Chase: 2009

King George VI Chase: 2011, 2013

Cheltenham Gold Cup: 2011

Long Run burst on to the British scene when storming to an emphatic victory in the Feltham Novices' Chase at Kempton in 2009 and the Nicky Henderson-trained raider propelled to the highest point in national hunt racing as he stormed to victory in the 2011 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Taking on the likes of Kauto Star, Denman and Imperial Commander in a memorable renewal, the Seven Barrows raider was simply sublime as he ground down his older adversaries and he then went on to be one of the dominant forces at the top of the tree.

Wins in the 2011 and 2013 King George VI Chase just showed what class he had in his younger days, but he has struggled to show the same ability of late and having struggled in the 2014 King George VI Chase connections opted to bypass this year's Gold Cup and head to Aintree instead.

Popular in the 2014 Grand National Betting market, Long Run will have to improve his jumping if he is to clear all 30 fences on his way round the gruelling course, but if he takes to the task then he has to be on the shortlist, as like Tidal Bay, he is one of the real proven class acts of the race and if on a going day will be a leading player as they turn into the home straight.
