Alan King's Godsmejudge had always shaped as if a staying trip would play to his strengths and he showed that when finishing a decent third behind Back In Focus in the Cheltenham Festival four-miler having finished second to Rigadin Du Beauchene in the Classic Chase at Warwick in his previous start.

Having ran a corker at Prestbury Park, the Barbury Castle inmate was then handed the task of heading up to Ayr to compete in the Scottish Grand National and the classy gelding produced a scintillating performance to land the spoils at 12/1 and King immediately set his sights on Aintree and he is now a leading figure in the 2014 Grand National Betting.

However, since that victory north of the border he has struggled to produce the goods and after finishing fifth in a competitive event at Cheltenham he has been subsequently been pulled up in last two starts at Sandown Park and Doncaster.

The latter saw him fail to complete in the Grimthorpe Chase and that is often one of the leading trial races for the Grand National, so King will be hoping that his raider can bounce back to form on April 5 and show his class and bag another National crown.
